Ger Fennelly Saving Lives
The Ger Fennelly Fund
It is with great sadness that our family are writing this when in fairness we should be preparing for an eventful weekend ahead to celebrate Ger's 40th Birthday this Sunday 11th April.
As some of you will be aware, and for those who are not, it was recently discovered that Ger died from SADS (Sudden Adult Death Syndrome), Therefore it wasn't the Storm, the Wind, his Diabetes or Kitesurfing on the 31st Oct 2020 that took his life. Unfortunately Ger took a massive heart attack mid air and died before any impact. As this was a congenital heart condition he was born with and sadly was never detected we have decided to raise money to save lives for the Family Heart Screening Clinic in the Mater hospital.
€45 is the approx cost of a life-saving scan or ECG for people at-risk of SADS at this clinic. And the screening that takes place here depends almost completely on fundraisers like this one.
Our family will now be screened here for the same genetic condition as Ger, along with other families who have, or unfortunately will' suffer a similar bereavement.
Donations to this clinic will help screening will help vital projects such as building a bio-bank of samples that could in the future help identify at-risk families ahead of tragedy.
We would welcome any donation possible!!!
Met Ger's lovely Dad in hospital tonight. So sorry for your loss.
You inspired me Ger in your life, I’d admired you fro what you did. Your manner was and is a example to me. Your missed , glad I got to see you and kite with you before you left this planet my friend
